Hopefully things have changed after COVID, but this was the most dangerous unit I've ever worked in. I would get floated there as an ICU nurse and given 3-4 PCU patients. Generally at least one, if not most of them, were borderline ICU. Trouble would happen and I'd either end up intubating one of my patients and begging to drop down to 1:2 or one of their new grad "ICU" nurses would code/intubate one of their patients and I'd end up switching assignments mid-shift. It is staffed by very inexperienced nurses who struggle in emergent situations. Both the charge nurse and house supervisor had no clue what equipment or meds to give for an emergent intubation. The physicians are often locums and of varying quality. I was assaulted by an ETOH withdrawal patient here because a doctor ignored me when I called repeatedly to say he was escalating and needed to be assessed. Maybe they were struggling with the acuity shifted onto them during COVID, but I wouldn't send a dead dog here, let alone someone I liked.
