| This is a dream CA job. It's busy and the pt population can be hard but you always get your breaks and there is plenty of staff. You go 1:3 if you have a PCU pt and 1:1 if ICU. The resource nurses take the codes and strokes and then hand off when they are stable. Half the department is truly lovely but there is a lot of blatant sexism and racism. Almost everyone has worked there for 10-20 years which is great but also sometimes feels like some of the medicine is a bit out-dated. The hardest part about the job is the docs with a few ordering every test under the sun unnecessarily and others who again just seem stuck in their old ways without looking at the data. Coming from places where the docs are constantly updating practices and reading journals and educating on it, it feels quite behind. Still easily a pretty Cush job especially coming from outside CA where the work conditions are insane. |
