| This is my first job as a new grad so I don't have much to compare to, but I seriously love my unit. Although there are shifts where we are understaffed, overworked, don't get a full break, or have a bad assignment, I have never once felt like I didn't have backup when I needed it. Everyone here is so supportive and I think that is what makes the difference between and good and bad unit. Our ratios are typically 1:1 and 1:2 is it's early inductions. We almost always have a float nurse or two to call if help is needed. Most doctors/midwives are in-house which always makes you feel more comfortable. They also do a good job of mixing new nurses with experienced ones so that the new nurses have lots of help and backup, especially when fresh off orientation. Of course there are days that are more stressful that others but overall I really love working here! |
